How to book Spice Road

To help us give you the best performance we can, please be prepared to answer the following questions about your event:
1. What is the event?
- What is the reason or theme of your event?
- Why are you choosing belly dance? (your expectations)
- Is the show a surprise?
2. Who is the audience?
- Who and how many people will be attending? (ages, women only, co-ed (men present in room/part of audience), children)
- Has your audience seen belly dance before?
3. Where will it be held?
- What is the location? (please supply specific directions)
- Will the event be indoor or outdoor? (if outdoor, is it in a shelter, what type)
- What is the flooring? (cement, carpet, hardwood, etc.)
- How high is the ceiling? (This will determine whether veil or other props can be used)
- Are there other obstacles in the room that may cause problems with staging or props?
- What is the size of the area that we will be dancing in?
- Will you be able to provide a private space to warm-up and/or change?
- Will you be able to provide a safe, secure place to store our belongings while we perform?
- Will you be able to provide a stereo system that will play burned CDs/MP3s?
4. About the performance
- How long a set do you require? (We will make suggestions based on your event, venue and audience.)
- Do you have special requests/preferences regarding, music, styles/props, costuming, etc.?
- Is there anyone who you would like pulled up to dance? This is loads of fun! (i.e. birthday-girl/boy)
Out of town bookings:
- There is a transportation fee for travel outside of the city to cover time and fuel ($0.45 / km, return) PLUS an additional charge of $35 per hour of driving time over 2 hours total.
- An overnight accommodations and meals fee will be included based on distance from the city and time event is booked; or, you may provide accommodations and meals (to be discussed prior to booking).
- Bookings requiring airfare must have that cost included in the booking contract.
What Spice Road requires as a performance group:
- ceiling height of a minimum 7 feet;
- performance space of a miniumum 8 feet by 8 feet;
- a private space to wait in and o final preparation before performing;
- access to a bathroom;
- access to water.
What you can expect from Spice Road dancers:
- We will arrive in costume, prepared and ready to perform.
- We will always behave in a courteous and professional manner.
- We will provide the best show we can.
- We will be more than willing to answer questions.
- We will expect that the venue is as you described it during the booking interview.
- We will expect that your audience will behave in a respectful manner.
- We will expect to be paid promptly upon arrival.
What we will not do, so please don’t even ask:
- men only bachelor/stag parties
- sing (i.e. birthday songs)
- perform in unsafe situations, and/or where drugs or excessive alcohol are being used.
- strip or perform out of costume (or in non-belly dance attire)
- dance to Western music (i.e. not Middle Eastern)
*** Spice Road expects that our hosts will do their best to help us make our shows sweet and spicy.
Thus, Spice Road reserves the right to refuse a show at our discretion. If we arrive and deem the venue or audience unfit or unsafe we will decline the show. In this case your deposit and (in the event of out of town bookings) transportation fees will be retained. ***
